Today was the first day in quite some time that I’ve managed to sit down and do a morning meditation?!
Usually I’ve been hitting a 10 minute ‘before bed’ meditation but today is the first day that I’ve been clear enough to pause and commit to a daytime meditation = #win (Hey, it’s only taken a week to get into the groove…)
As each week progresses in the Whole Life Challenge it’s easy to throw out last week’s lifestyle practice and replace it with this week’s practice but I would encourage you to see it as cumulative – eg. each lifestyle practice is something to add to the previous practice – see it as another building block, moving you closer to whole life dominance
Most of the lifestyle practices are only 10 minutes long – as a base you could commit 10 mins to exercise and mobility each day (20 mins) then an additional 10 mins to each lifestyle practice as they’re introduced each week. If you did, the following progression would occur (forgive me all the data nerds out there if my maths is off)
- week 1 – 3.5 hrs in total (mobility + exercise + LSP 1)
- week 2 – 4.7 hrs in total (mobility + exercise + LSP 1 + LSP 2)
- week 3 – 5.8 hrs in total (mobility + exercise + LSP 1 + LSP 2 + LSP 3)
- week 4 – 7 hrs in total (mobility + exercise + LSP 1 + LSP 2 + LSP 3 + LSP 4)
- week 5 – 8.1 hrs in total (mobility + exercise + LSP 1 + LSP 2 + LSP 3 + LSP 4 + LSP 5)
- week 6 – 9.3 hrs in total (mobility + exercise + LSP 1 + LSP 2 + LSP 3 + LSP 4 + LSP 5 + LSP 6)
- week 7 – 10.5 hrs in total (mobility + exercise + LSP 1 + LSP 2 + LSP 3 + LSP 4 + LSP 5 + LSP 6 + LSP 7)
- week 8 – 11.6 hrs in total (mobility + exercise + LSP 1 + LSP 2 + LSP 3 + LSP 4 + LSP 5 + LSP 6 + LSP 7 + LSP 8)
The reality is that some of the lifestyle practices don’t even take 10 mins and some take more so I’ve just averaged it out to 10 mins each.
If you’re looking to gain anything from your training then everyone knows that you need to commit at least 5 hours a week to it and be spending at least 2 hours/week on your mobility – oh and not undoing it all with shitty nutrition
If you think “that’s way too much” and “how am I going to add yet another thing to my already busy life?!” – consider this:
There are 168 hours in a week – If you take into account, work, sleep, training and mobility using the following hours as an example of a regular week:
– Work 40 hours
– Sleep 49 hours (based on 7 hours/night)
– Training 6 hours
– Mobility 2 hours
You would have an additional 97 hours to work with.
I know, I know “But Ben – I work 50 hour weeks!” or “But Ben, you’re not taking into account time spent with my family or friends!” – OK fine then, subtract another 20 hours and you’ll still be left with a whopping 77 hours
Here’s a good one – how about cutting back on the amount of time you spend watching TV, youtube or on Facebook and see what you can come up with? #justsayin
Can each weekly lifestyle practice be cumulative?
I believe they can.
