So now I’ve gone and done it. I handed in my resignation and then had a meeting with my bookkeeper… 🙁
That’s me to a tee – shoot first -> then ask questions. Jump -> then realise there’s not enough water in the pool. Burn that bridge -> then you’ll just have to make it work… Sink or swim baby – this is indeed where the rubber meets the road…
My bookkeeper berated me for failing to check the latest budget figures before handing in my resignation. As it turns out, if I wanted to pull the same pay check from Adapt (that I currently get from the public service) I’ll be running the business at a significant loss.
In my grand plans to finish up my day job at the end of January I seemed to have missed the unforeseen necessity for part time work in Feb and the fact that I’ve had to push back the date for our 2nd location. But the figures don’t lie: I’m no where near where I needed to be from a financial point of view – I guess I was living in a dream world (I mean, a fulltime gig + Adapt looked pretty peachy…) but Adapt alone makes things pretty damn tight indeed.
Stress 1 – Part time work (I have to do it)
I was all about working on the business from the end of January but now it looks like I’ll be spending a fair bit of time working in the business. I can coach or I can stack shelves but in the end it doesn’t really matter. I will get to where I want to be eventually, it’s just now the journey looks a little different to what I had first envisaged…
Stress 2 – Second location (not for another 12 months)
We’re gonna have to save our little arses off for a deposit (rent) and some new equipment to fit it out. It does hurt my heart (especially when you’ve already gone and checked out a spot) only to realise it’s well and truly out of your reach but wiser words will prevail and we will be good to go next November.
Hustle
Now that some dates have been set I’m on a mission to get as much done as I can before the end of January.
I’m working my arse off to groom our existing interns (currently running warm ups) into confident coaches that can run full sessions. I’ve got new membership targets to hit by mid Feb 2013 and I’m looking at ways to maximise our existing space in Belconnen to handle the increase in membership. I’ve got to come up with additional revenue streams (CF Kids, Corporate Fitness and 1:1 Coaching, etc.) plus run and track everything through MBO. So much to do. So little time…
I did finally manage to sit down with an accountant to talk about setting up Adapt as a company and I’ve hired a new business coach (who specialises in developing CF Affiliates)
Both December and January are going to be pretty busy months as well – I’ve got 4 back to back sessions in the gym this coming Saturday plus an additional nutrition chat in the afternoon. We”ll be squeezing in a local throw down with the crew from CrossFit Hill on the 1st Dec and an End of Year BBQ on the 8th. All our coaches are scheduled to attend the Outlaw Seminars in Sydney and Perth at the end of January too.
Sure the next few months are going to be busy and I might have to hustle harder then I ever have in my life. But I’m reassured by the fact that I’m surrounded by so many people that believe in me and what I’m trying to do that it’s going to be almost impossible to fail 🙂
I am #blessed.
