It is done (I handed in my resignation)

Yep, that’s right. I finally gave notice to leave my day job.

I’ve been sitting on this email since the start of the week and this afternoon after a cold-sweat, some nausea, and heart palpitations, I BCC’d all my mates and sent a resignation email to my manager, Erin.

The email

Dear Erin,

I hereby tender my resignation from my role as Graphic/Web Designer of the Web Team.

As we’ve previously discussed in a 1:1 catch-up, I am resigning from my current position to run my own business.
I am extremely scared but I’m also pretty dang excited about the future -> this email has been sitting in my drafts folder since the start of the week!

My resignation will be effective from Friday, 1 February 2013. I am providing you with more than six weeks’ notice. My last working day will be Thursday 31 January 2013.

I’d already spoken to Erin regarding my thoughts run my business full time and wrap things up by the end of January 2013. I was super chilled when I relayed it to her, big picture stuff – more like a fluffy pipe dream. You know, “this is what I’m thinking of doing…”  But now it’s in writing, with a date on it and everything  –  well, this shit just got real!

Am I still nervous? I’m scared shitless! – The heavy,dull feeling I had in the bottom of my rib cage (because I’d lost all motivation for my day job) has now been replaced with a lighter, prickly, metalic snow flake that feels like it’s grinding its way about my chest, just under the skin, a little higher up just under my sternum – I think this is my ‘circle expanding’ – Damn it feels like it?!

Its quite easy to tell others to quit their day job and go after their dreams but it’s another thing altogether to go and do it yourself. Fortune favours the brave and as of 4:15pm this afternoon, I did. I’m going for it it. I’m all in baby!

Yeah I might be scared but I am pretty damn excited too. I’m more excited about the future then I’ve ever been in my entire life. I’m excited about the future of Adapt. I’m excited about the future of my incredible wife and my 2 beautiful daughters. I’m excited about the future of all my coaches and the people we’re going to train. We’re here to change lives and this takes me a step closer to doing that on a full time basis – Yew!

I don’t know exactly what’s going to happen on 1 Feb 2013 but I can tell you this: I’ve got a vision for Adapt, the coaches and our members. I’ve got personal dreams and goals and I’m developing strategies and plans to ensure I achieve them. The best thing about jumping out of this plane is that I’m surrounded by some really awesome people who are genuinely dedicated to seeing me succeed. I am very blessed.
