As I said in my last post: If Adapt made it through Feb (w/ coaches and bills paid) we’d go again in March…. Well the good news: we made it and we’re going for it in March!
Now that Beccca and I are doing the Adapt thing on a fulltime basis we’re finding that we still haven’t quite yet worked out a good rhythm or a structured routine by which to run/orgainse our week in the gym/@home/@life, etc.
Of course I’ve got to spend time in the business: doing admin, running group fitness and 1:1 PT sessions but I’ve also got to spend time working on the business: think of ways to increase revenue, develop my coaches and keep our members happy. I’ve also got to spend more time with Becca and the girls. I’ve got to train more, play more and I’m also pretty keen to commit more time to learning and writing more.
Scheduling in time to do everything I think I need to get done has been difficult because the last couple of months has all been about the hustle: eg. make Adapt into a successful business with happy clients and happy coaches but also into a business that pays the bills.
I’ve never really been that great at scheduling my time but now that Adapt is a fulltime gig I’m finding that if I don’t plan my week in advance it’ll be over before I know it and I won’t have gotten through half the things on my TODO list. I think it’s absolutely crazy that we’re already 2 months into 2013 as it seems like we only just got past Xmas 2012?! – If you thought last year went quick, hold on to your seats because this year’s gonna be over before you know it!
I made a decision yesterday to start taking control of my weekly schedule and start planning and designing the week (days) I want to have instead of reacting to things as they ‘come up’….
In any given week I know I need to:
- Spend more quality time with Becca and the Girls
- Train – build myself as an athlete plus hit recovery, mobility and rehab/prehab
- Work in the business – run sessions, PT and do admin
- Work on the business – empower my coaches, write for the website (and newsletter) and grow the Adapt community
- Learn – Self development, S7C coaching, inspiration and motivation (read, listen and watch)
- Write for myself – share my story (blog)
- Spend time developing others – listening and life coaching
- Play more: slackline, surf, skateboard and rollerblade and stress less
- Spend more time with mentors and mates – accountability, share ideas and challenge each other.
I’ve been thinking about it for a while (and sometimes I did) that I would spend my Monday mornings planning out my week and writing an article for my blog. My office is Red Brick Epresso in Curtain and armed with my iPad, Kikki-K weekly planner pad and a pen I’ve dedicated a 2 hour block to get everything out of my head and onto paper or in the iPad/calendar. Actually today’s post was written out here 🙂 The coffee’s awesome, I often bump into Tim and chat about business, coffee and life.
I also decided that I would lock in a better early morning routine. To start each and every day with ‘intent’
Every morning I get up at 4.30am. I do set an alarm but I don’t really need it as my bio-clock wakes me up around 4:15am anyway. It can be down-right annoying sometimes but that’s how it is – actually on the morning’s I do manage to sleep in I end up feeling like I’ve wasted hours of my life – so I don’t sleep in very often. After I get dressed I might chill for a while – sometimes I read, sometimes I stretch and sometimes I do absolutely nothing until another alarm goes off at 5am and then I head into the gym.
I decided last night to better spend the first half hour of every day (4.30 – 5am) getting through my reading list – no, not audio books (I listen to them in the car) but actual physical books and my kindle (because you have to read it too)Â Currently my daily reading list includes a chapter of the bible (reading through Corinthians ATM), a couple of chapters of Chris Cooper’s Two Brained Business (Chris is my business Coach) and Brian Mackenzie/Glenn Cordoza Power Strength Endurance book – It’s what I’ve committed to every day for the next month and I’m intrigued to see how much I pick up – I guess I’m just trying to make it a habit and we’ll see what happens?
What’s your morning routine? How do you start each week? Do you havce a plan? Do you start every day with ‘intent’ or does your week go by and you feel like you haven’t got anything worth doing done?

Design your day with #intent – nobody told me quitting my 9-5 job would mean switching it up to 24/7 http://t.co/PZwrTqGdRz
I try and start my day ‘playing from a 10’
By that I mean my attitude towards my day and what I expect to get from it…
If I don’t succeed in my sales goals, or my coffee isn’t great, or I have unexpected news that is upsetting then my attitude only slips down to a 7 or 6.
If you carry over yesterday’s upsets into today whereby only starting your day on a 6 and things go pear shaped then you end the day on a 3 or 2 and what’s more totally deflated despite your efforts !!
Always wake up, reset and play from a 10
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail..,
