It’s pretty hard to contain my excitement. I recently took the lid off something that I’ve been working on for the last couple of months.
Yesterday, I announced to the world via my fortnightly newsletter that Adapt now does nutrition. OK so that was probably a bit of a gross generalisation. My gym now offers frozen, microwave reheatable, clean (sugar and gluten free) preprepared Paleo meals in 20 packs.
I know that’s nothing new. There are a tonne of different companies out there offering a multitude of frozen, preprepared meals but from what I’ve seen and tried, either the serving sizes are way too small or after a while all the meals start to taste the same.
I’d like to say that I came up with this as a cool new way to generate more revenue for my business but to be completely honest I did it because I’m just so fricken lazy.
When I get home from work, I don’t want to work – I’m done for the day and because I see planning, preparing and cooking as work – I don’t want to do it. After I get home, cooking would have to be pretty close to the bottom of the list of things I want to do and unfortunately for me it’s also on the bottom of my wife’s list of priorities so quite regularly we might get some take out on the way home.
I’m a big believer in outsourcing. If there’s something you don’t want to do, you can usually find someone else that will not only do it for you but make your own efforts seem ridiculously pathetic. We’ve done that for our gardening at home and recently Becca decided to get a cleaner in once a fortnight too. If you want to reduce stress in your life – you can do yoga and/or you can outsource and because we’d already done that for our gardening and cleaning, it only seemed logical that we could get someone to do our cooking too? Well not all our cooking – but it would be sure nice to have some prepreapred meals that were ready to go (and good for you) when we didn’t feel like doing it ourselves.
Although it’s probably a little more complicated then this: We eventually found someone to do some cooking for us and the rest is history…
We’ve done a fair bit of testing in regards to refining the serving sizes, the list of ingredients and the best ways to package, freeze and reheat the meals but my number one requirement was always that each meal be tasty as (yes even after reheating it in the microwave). I’ve eaten well over 20 of these meals and so far so good 🙂
I’m not sure how things how things are going to pan out but by the looks of things it looks like we’re gonna meet a substantial need for a great number of people (both inside and outside our gym). It hasn’t even been 24 hours and the inital order (strictly limited to 20 people) is over half sold out. So fingers crossed. I’m not expecting to get it perfect the first time around so we’ll continue to gather feedback from all our customers and continue to refine our offering so that we literally do have the cleanest, tastiest meals around…
I know I haven’t really covered what the meals actually are but I’d be duplicating content just for the sake of it so go read the newsletter already and get the juicy details.
